Don’t Chase Money, Allow It To Come Into Your Life
We live in turbulent times and anxiety is on the rise.
America was supposed a stable country and the world is rubbing its eyes in astonishment to see the economic upheaval and political turmoil convulsing the nation.
And I have not even mentioned the pandemic which is raging unchecked.
And I hear from many that they wish they had more zeros in their bank account because they need that security.
And the vast majority of us are stuck in the land so pithily summarized by one of my students, “I know money does not bring happiness, but I want to discover this for myself.”
The notion that more money will somehow solve all — or, at least, a great many — of your problems is such a strong mental model that I will not even try to refute it in this post.
Instead, I will suggest how you can actually get more of it and see for yourself if it is the solution.
The first step is to alter your thoughts and attitude about money. Do you feel that it is ‘difficult’ to get it in quantity? That you have to ‘work hard’ to get it?
These are mental models you hold and they do not serve you well. Unfortunately, they are such powerful models that most do not even recognize that they are just models.
Think of the success you have had in your life and the material possessions you have accumulated as stuff that you have ‘allowed’ to come into your life.
Yes, you did work and make an effort but that is not how your fortune came. It came because you ‘allowed’ it into your life. It was a gift from the benevolent universe.
And now you are ready to take the next step and ‘allow’ more to come into your life.
You don’t desperately want it. You do not need it. Your well-being does not depend on it. It’s perfectly fine if you do not get it.
You just have a preference for it and are now ready to allow it into your life with no fuss, no frantic striving, no drama.
You do not have to know how this will happen. Don’t try to imagine a plausible scenario.
Just be comfortable with where you are. Be fully OK with remaining so. And let the universe know that you have a preference for more.
The good news is that this is an immensely powerful technique that works in spades.
The bad news is that it is immensely hard to actually get to the mindset I have laid out. Decades of conditioning make it difficult. You believe that you have to ‘do something’ and ‘work really hard’ and ‘sacrifice now to safeguard your future’ and ‘help others to get what they want and this will lead to your getting what you want’ and much else.
Not so.
You just have to let go of your neediness and wanting, express your preference, and allow the universe to deliver.
Don’t try to make it happen. Instead, let it happen.
The work will be there and perhaps a great deal of it.
But the sense of effort, of striving, will not be there. You won’t struggle or strain. You will just do your thing calmly and find joy in what you do.
Joel Goldsmith, the American mystic and spiritual writer, put it beautifully: Any inspiration received from God carries with it fulfillment. For example, if an inventor realizes that his work is the activity of God, all that is necessary for the fulfillment of the idea embodied in his invention will be available — the financing, the advertising, the buying and the selling. This is true of any God-created idea. The source of its inspiration is the same activity which brings it to its full fruition.
If you are not particularly religious, or even atheistic, just substitute ‘Universe’ for ‘God’. It works just as well.
My good friend, Price Pritchett, has written an excellent booklet that explains the process. It is called You 2.
